I went on 3 calls back-to-back last night. We started off on a warehouse fire, then immediately were paged out to a car fire. We had just finished refilling the trucks with water and had sat down to unwind at the station when we were paged out to a large grass fire. Of course it wasn’t a large grass fire, but a very small trash fire instead.
May God bless the dispatchers. They are doing the absolute best they can with the info they are given. Sometimes it’s a bit humorous on our end when we get to the scene and it’s not at all how it was paged out. Other times it’s downright dangerous that someone gave the incorrect info and what we were paged to was A, but it’s actually Z.
I’ve been told with time I’ll learn to recognize certain addresses and will know we need police to arrive before us for certain areas. For now, I’m just taking in all the information I can. When it comes to the fire service, pray often and laugh often. Don’t take things too serious.
